New York based artist Sopheap Dam is Cambodian by heritage and was born in Thailand. She began drawing at a very early age, showing a natural inclination toward art, but it wasn’t until she met her first partner—who owned a gallery in central London—that she began to take making art more seriously and professionally. Through this experience, she quickly learned the discipline and inner workings involved in producing art at a professional level. Since then, she has traveled extensively around the world to gain a broad range of experiences and inspiration, allowing her to create diverse bodies of work. Sopheap is deeply inspired by different cultures and the fundamental aspects of what makes us human. She is particularly moved by the ways in which our thoughts and surroundings shape the future.
